Pet health and safety during this spooky season

Howl-o-ween is fast approaching! Planning on dressing your pet up this year? Here’s what you should keep in mind before you do:

It is important to always keep your pets’ health and safety as your number one priority and ensure your furry companion is comfortable! This means making sure that their costume properly fits in advance and closely monitoring your animals for any signs of discomfort or irritation. Shaking, scratching, pacing, and attempts to remove the costume are clear signs that your pet is not comfortable, therefore, you need to either remove the costume or make some adjustments. Halloween themed collars or bandanas, or a harness-style costume are good options for animals that are uncomfortable wearing more detailed costumes.
When your pet has their costume on, ensure that the costume does not restrict their ability to move freely and that it does not prevent them from going to the bathroom, eating, drinking and walking or running comfortably.

Be sure to keep an eye out for any loose costume items that may be easily chewed. Pets should always be supervised when wearing a costume to avoid the hazards such as choking risks.

Lastly, it is always important to make sure your animal has valid, updated identification. In the case that your pet gets spooked and runs away, proper identification like a microchip or collar with identification tag will increase your chances of being reunited with your furry friend.

Remember to be safe, have fun, and have a paw-some Howl-o-ween!
