London, ON (October 6, 2022) – Humane Society London & Middlesex (HSLM) is piloting a new adoption process, which aims to adopt a prohibited breed dog under Breed Specific Legislation (BLS) to someone outside of Ontario, directly from the London, ON facility.
Historically, when a prohibited breed dog is surrendered to HSLM, it is transferred to a shelter or rescue in a province where the BSL is not in place. Currently, many of these facilities are at capacity and have lengthy wait times.
These obstacles led HSLM to launch the new, pilot adoption process when 1-year-old pitbull mix, Aurora, was recently surrendered to the shelter, rather than having her await transfer out of province which would take several weeks or months.
Only potential adopters who live outside of Ontario where Breed Specific Legislation is not in place will be considered to adopt Aurora. Proof of address and photo I.D will be required. Additional information about Aurora and the adoption process can be found online: www.hslm.ca/adopt/aurora/
