News Release: HSLM Limits Shelter Operations Amidst COVID-19

In order to ensure the health and wellness of staff and their ability to care for animals, Humane Society London & Middlesex (HSLM) has made the decision to limit shelter operations. Effective immediately, all surrenders and adoptions will be done by scheduled appointment only. Individuals who need to surrender a pet or are seriously considering adopting an animal are asked to call 519-451-0630 x232 to request an appointment, which will be accommodated in a timely manner.

All persons entering the shelter, including scheduled volunteers, will be required to sign a release form stating their current health status and recent travel history. As per Government of Canada’s mandate, any person who has travelled outside of Canada is subject to self-isolation regardless of present symptoms.

As many during this time, HSLM faces concerns regarding inventory of cleaning supplies and pet food. We ask that those wishing to donate financially to do so online: https://www.hslm.ca/help-us/donate/ and/or refer to the Amazon.ca Wish List: https://amzn.to/38Z8HCi in lieu of dropping off items off at the shelter. Those wishing to donate high-priority items directly to the shelter, such as cleaning supplies or pet food are asked to leave such items in the administrative entrance.

“We will continue to maintain our vigilant cleaning routines to ensure the health of our staff,” says HSLM Executive Director, Steve Ryall.  “By limiting public access we can best control exposure and maintain a healthy environment for our team and the animals in which we care for. We, along with many others in the community, have focused on doing our part to ‘flatten the curve’ we encourage all members of the public to monitor their health, reduce their exposure and be mindful of the health of others.”
