Mike Hattim and Dominion Lending Centres team supports New Home. New Hope.

Mike Hattim and his team at Dominion Lending Centres hosted a Customer Appreciation event on Saturday, August 6, 2022. The event, which was attended by hundreds of individuals, boasted carnival-style games, face painting, balloon animals, photo booth, food trucks, and amazing raffle prizes.

$4,130 was raised and donated to HSLM in support of the New Home. New Hope. capital campaign through this event!

Humane Society London & Middlesex (HSLM) was chosen as the recipient of funds raised through the event due to Mike Hattim’s personal connection to our cause:

“I had my dog Kuba for almost 10 years before he passed and he was everything to me.  He went with me everywhere I went socially where he was welcomed and also came with me to work.  Raising him was an amazing experience but sadly, like all pet owners we have to deal with the struggle when they pass.  His passing was exceptionally hard for me.

One thing I realized during the time I had him was how expensive it can be having a dog, especially if they become ill and in the final years of their life.  When someone is that important to you, one of the worst things is being financially limited to the care you can provide them.  Thankfully I was in a position to be able to afford it but there are so many people that aren’t able to and becomes such a burden on both the pet owner and the pet.

After Kuba passed I wanted to find a way to make things better for others.  My first thought was to start a foundation to help pets get the medical and health attention they need for people who are unable to afford the costs.  This turned into being a huge challenge because there were so many requirements and costs to even start something like this.

So, I turned my focus on HSLM.  Although I had done some moderate donations to HSLM in the past, I didn’t know much about all that was involved and what they do for the community and animals.  I took the time to meet with the people from HSLM and was blown away with what they do and how passionate they were about the care for the animals and their mission.  This was completely in-line with something I wanted to be a part of.  At that point I knew I wanted to contribute in some way to help their continued efforts for animals.

The facility they have been using for so many years was creating so many challenges and it was obvious by just walking through it but the team was making the best of what they had to work with.  I was very excited to see the planning for the new facility they were building that was long overdue.  This new location will be a huge leap forward and this is something I want to help make happen in any way possible.

So outside of any contribution I personally donate to HSLM, creating further awareness is key in helping.  Together as a community we can do so many great things and the more awareness there is, the more help we can provide to one another.  So, myself and my team put on a large event at our office for people to come and enjoy themselves but also meet some people from HSLM and learn about what they do.  Everyone was excited to see the vision and donate something.  It was a great experience!” – Mike Hattim.
