March 8, 2023 – When community members face financial hardships they are often concerned about their four-legged family members. Pet food pantry programs offer support, helping to keep pets in their homes during temporary financial hardships.
For over 10 years No Empty Bowls, a local volunteer-run organization, has been fulfilling the needs of Londoners, and community members in surrounding regions, through their pet food pantry program. With the recent announcement of No Empty Bowls closing as of March 1, Humane Society London & Middlesex has stepped forward with a commitment to transition these services to its organization in order to ensure the continuity of a much-needed program for the community and its animals.
“This is a service our community definitely needs,” says Steve Ryall, Executive Director Humane Society London & Middlesex. “No Empty Bowls has made a tremendous impact in our community and our team here at HSLM will work hard to carry that forward.”
HSLM and No Empty Bowls (operated by Wendy Gorman and her husband Kevin), have developed a relationship over the past several years. HSLM regularly connected those in need to the services provided by No Empty Bowls, and donated pet food and care items to the organization on a regular basis.
“It makes sense for both organizations that the torch is now passed over to HSLM to transition and run the pet food pantry program,” Ryall explains. “Our mission is to lead London and Middlesex in building a humane and compassionate community for all animals. This program is aligned with that.”
Ryall expects there will be no disruption to services as both teams work to transition the program as seamlessly as possible.
