News Release: HSLM Partners with Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario to Ensure Local Pet Owners Have Access to Free Food

London, ON (April 16, 2020) – Humane Society London & Middlesex (HSLM) has partnered with Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario in an effort to distribute 738 bags of dog food through HSLM’s distribution partner, No Empty Bowls Food Bank.

“Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario reached out to us to contribute the large quantity of dog food to support our recent Virtual Food Drive,” says Steve Ryall, HSLM Executive Director. “The dog food falls outside of the three specific brands we feed the shelter animals, so we collaborated to have the food delivered to No Empty Bowls Food Bank, who we donate food and other supplies to on a regular basis.”

No Empty Bowls Food Bank provides London & surrounding area pet owners with free pet food to help them through times of financial hardship. This service allows pet owners to keep their beloved pets, rather than having to re-home them due to lack of resources.

The donated dog food will be distributed to the London Food Bank, Ailsa Craig Food Bank, Unity Project, St. Joe’s Soup Kitchen, Ice Foundation Dog Rescue, London Salvation Army, Woodstock Salvation Army, Stratford Salvation Army and the Caring Cupboard Food Bank in St. Thomas. From there, pet owners will have the ability to pick up the food they require at no-cost in order to feed their companion animals.
