Humane Society London & Middlesex (HSLM) is proud to announce a landmark achievement in the organization’s 126-year history: the official accreditation and opening of our on-site HSLM Veterinary Clinic—HSLM Animal Medical Centre.
Following a comprehensive inspection by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO), HSLM’s clinic has been formally accredited as a licensed veterinary facility and is officially open. For the first time since its founding in 1899, HSLM now has the ability to provide on-site veterinary services, dramatically transforming the way medical care is delivered to animals within the shelter. As well, animals within the organization’s care will now have direct access to veterinary services delivered on-site by a dedicated medical team led by Medical Director Dr. Tracy Vink- Taylor.
This is a transformative moment for HSLM, as for over a century, HSLM has relied on staff and volunteers to transport animals across the city and beyond to Partner Veterinarians for appointments, diagnostics, surgeries and emergency care—often placing additional strain on the animals. With the opening of our veterinary clinic, we are now positioned to deliver care that is timely, consistent, and compassionate while improving outcomes and reducing stress and length of stay for the animals we serve.
The clinic is equipped with medical resources, including:
- A full IDEXX in-house laboratory suite for real-time diagnostics
- Digital Radiography (DR X-ray) for advanced imaging
- Two fully equipped surgical suites for both routine and urgent procedures
- A dedicated dental suite with digital dental radiology to support comprehensive oral health care
Please note: At this time, the HSLM Animal Medical Centre is exclusively serving animals currently in the care of the shelter. While we recognize the growing need for accessible veterinary services in the community, the clinic is not open to the public at this stage. Over the next several years, HSLM hopes to evaluate community needs and operational capacity to pilot public service offerings as part of a long-term, phased strategy for sustainability and success.
This project has been years in the making and would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of our team, the leadership of our Medical Director (DVM), and the unwavering support of our community partners and donors. We want to thank everyone who made this dream possible. You believed in the vision, and together, we’ve made history. This new chapter reflects our commitment to innovation and compassionate care for animals in need. A new Era of care at HSLM.For more information about HSLM programs and services, visit www.hslm.ca.
