Benny’s Second Chance

When 18-month-old Benny arrived at Humane Society London & Middlesex, he had already been through more than most cats ever should.

Benny was surrendered through a local veterinary clinic after his family was faced with an impossible decision. He was suffering from a painful hip condition called Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE), where the ball of the hip joint separates from the rest of the leg bone. The injury is extremely painful and required surgery that his owner simply couldn’t afford, even after exploring available support options.

Thankfully, the veterinary team reached out to HSLM to see if Benny could be transferred after surgery so he could have a second chance.

On May 27, Benny underwent surgery at Oxford Animal Hospital to remove his injured leg and hip joint. Just a couple of weeks later, on June 10, he arrived at HSLM to begin his recovery.

Since then, Benny has amazed everyone.

With patience, encouragement, and plenty of love from our Animal Care team, Benny has worked hard every day to rebuild his strength and confidence. He has gone from learning to move comfortably on three legs to proudly climbing stairs all on his own.

Because of the compassion of our veterinary partners, the dedication of our staff, and the generosity of our supporters, cats like Benny receive the lifesaving care they need and the opportunity to look forward to a brighter future.
