Fostering for HSLM

About Fostering for HSLM

By opening your home to a foster animal, you can make a world of difference in their life. Most animals thrive in a home environment, and your care and support can help them overcome medical and behavioural challenges. Humane Society London & Middlesex provides all the necessary animal care expenses and supplies, so your time, home, and love are the only things needed. Your act of kindness can truly make a positive impact on a furry friend in need.

Important things to consider:

  1. Do you have enough time to properly care for a foster animal? How long will the animal be left alone each day?
  2. Do you have a separate room to isolate a foster animal if needed?
  3. How will your current pets (if any) react to having a foster animal in their home?
  4. Are all members of your household prepared for the commitment and emotions involved with fostering?
  5. Can you make your home safe for a kitten or puppy by removing any potential hazards?
  6. Do you have the time and energy to take full responsibility for each animal's care during the entire foster period?
  7. If your foster animal has a scheduled vet appointment, are you committed to driving them to the shelter, even if in the middle of the day?

Foster Volunteer Requirements:

To ensure that you can help, there are certain requirements that you must meet to become a foster volunteer:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older.
  • You must provide proof of spay or neuter and up-to-date vaccinations for your current pets.
  • You must have access to a vehicle, and live within a 40-minute drive to the shelter.
  • You must abide by the foster agreement that you will sign upon joining the program.
  • You must refrain from fostering animals from other organizations or rescues while fostering an HSLM animal(s).
  • You must provide a Police Record Check. Additional information will be provided upon acceptance of the foster volunteer application.
  • You must understand that you will be eligible to apply to adopt a foster pet(s); however, there is no guarantee that you will be approved to adopt your foster pet(s).

Meet Hunny!

Sweet Hunny is looking for a foster home while she waits for her forever home. This girl will always be by your side, ready to cuddle and play. She loves her treats and will show you all her cool tricks for one!

Hunny has some sever skin issues that require a very specific diet and bathing routine. She might have to go on medication in the upcoming weeks. Because of Hunny's strict diet, she is looking for a home with no other animals, that way she can't steal their food! Her foster must follow her feeding instructions.

If you are interested in getting Hunny out of a kennel and into a house while she waits for her forever home, please consider fostering.

We have a litter of puppies in the shelter who are looking for foster homes! Interested in fostering one of them? Fill out a foster application today!
