HSLM Animal Protection Officers are responsible for responding to reports of animal abandonment, neglect and abuse and resolving through education and enforcement.

HSLM Animal Protection has the sole power to remove animals from homes where they are facing abuse, neglect and abandonment.
Our HSLM Animal Protection Officers respond to more than 1000 reports of animal cruelty every year – removing animals in need and support the laying of criminal charges when warranted. Under the Solicitor General and Chief Inspector, HSLM Animal Protection Officers are responsible for responding to reports of animal abandonment, neglect and abuse and resolving through education and enforcement.
Reporting Animal Cruelty
Abuse of an animal is a criminal offence.
Animal cruelty investigations include dogs left in hot cars, beaten and neglected or abandoned dogs and cats, puppy mills, and organized crimes against animals such as dog and cock fighting. We also assist the police with animals at crime scenes.

If your pet is in distress and needs assistance, please contact your veterinarian or if it is outside of regular business hours, contact London Regional Veterinary Emergency and Referral Clinic at 519-432-3300. They are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If a stray animal or wildlife are injured and need assistance, please contact your local animal services.

The Inspector and Agents of the Humane Society London & Middlesex enforce the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the sections of the Criminal Code of Canada, which deal with animal cruelty and abuse. Investigations department staff educate, inform, and, in some cases, prosecute people who neglect, abuse, abandon or are cruel to animals.
